Dear madam,

We signed an agreement with Merrill Schneider Law Offices assuming that we were to be represented by the attorney Kathleen Car, not the paralegal Christie Carner. They did not tell us that this was not the case.

Both my wife and I were present when we were told that if we signed the settlement agreement, we would not be liable for any of the doctor bills, hospital bills, or anesthesiology bills resulting from my recent surgery at Adventist Medical Center.

The only time that we saw Merrill Schneider during litigation was when he walked through the waiting room once and said “hello” to us.

It would have been nice for someone to tell us in the beginning we would be represented by a paralegal instead of an attorney.

On April 30, we received an agreement to sign for a settlement that we thought was to cover the lack of time, loss of compensation and pain suffered. We took this to Kathleen Carr and asked her specifically if signing this agreement would mean that all bills for surgery would be paid. She told us that if we signed it, we would have no bills to pay. Now we are being held liable for $20,000.00 in doctor and hospital bills. The settlement only gave us $11,250.00. We had to sell my truck and my wife’s car to pay our normal monthly bills and expenses as we did not get time loss. We would not have accepted this small amount if we thought we would have to pay these bills. My wife and I are on Social Security and do not have that kind of money.

Kathleen Carr at this time will have nothing to do with us and will not return our phone calls. She says there is no more she can do for us. This is the reason for this complaint.
