I am going through the
same dehumanizing (Social Security Disability) process with
Judge Ralph W. Jones in Portland. He used the same intimidation
tactics and even stood up and yelled at me during my hearing and
was extremely abusive.
My lawyer was no help
though, I have been using Merrill Schneider and he was so
incompetent that he showed up for the hearing without my medical
records and then took more than two months to get the Judge the
records.
I was just denied again
and am over the two year mark. These Judges need to be removed
from the process completely and replaced with small panel juries
of our peers if anyone wants to get fair hearings.
Also I am annoyed that I
was not allowed to bring any witnesses but the Judge has an
Occupational Expert that sits in on the hearing and then
testifies. At the beginning of the hearing the judge made sure
to say that the expert's testimony has no bearing on his
decision but if that is so, why is she paid to be there?
These judges want to
starve us out before awarding the benefits that we pay for
through our working lives or they are just trying to push us
over the edge to suicide as by the time you get to the hearing
you are so depressed from pain and not being able to do anything
that you once did.
I would love to see how
many people commit suicide before they get their benefits, I'm
sure that it would surprise most people. How many lives have
these Judges ruined with their power over the disabled people's
financial well being. Also remember that once you go through the
years of fighting for your benefits, once you do win you have a
two year wait to get Medicare. I have two fused discs in my back
and now have three more that are bulged but can not afford to
have them treated with out insurance. Lets face it our system is
broken all the way around and it so nice to be treated like I am
non-existent by the same system that I was forced to pay into
for thirty years.
