shot up by flak in a strike on Palau on 30 Mar 44, Ensign Bob Black of VF 5
is unhurt and climbs out from his F6F Hellcat. Broken into pieces
after ramming a 5 inch gun upon landing. |

Funeral and burial at sea taking place on the wooden
flight deck of the USS Yorktown. Chaplain bob Alexander and VF1 bury
Lt. M.M. "Mad Dog" Tomme. After landing, a plane behind Tomme ignored
his wave off and crashed on top of Tomme. |
